Grasshopper Manufacture was founded in 1998 by Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51. The studio has been releasing games since 1999 (notable titles include Killer7 and the No More Heroes series). The company's name originated from the song "Grasshopper" by the Oxford indie band Ride, which Suda listened to obsessively while working on Super Fire Pro Wrestling 3.
Grasshopper recently released Shadows of the Damned, co-developed with EA and Shinji Mikami.
They are currently in the process of developing a number of games including Lollipop Chainsaw (being co-written with James Gunn), Black Knight Sword (being co-developed and published by Digital Reality), Rebuild of Evangelion: Sound Impact and Killer is Dead.
In January 2013, Grasshopper was acquired by GungHo Online Entertainment, in turn owned by Softbank.
