We are looking for a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to lead the evolution of our data infrastructure. This is a high-impact role designed for a self-starter who thrives in autonomous environments. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure and pipelines that power our decision-making capabilities. The ideal candidate isn't just a builder, but a strategist who can identify bottlenecks, prioritize technical debt alongside new functionality, and communicate the "why" behind their technical choices to the broader team. You’ll play an active role in shaping the future of data at thatgamecompany, evolving and democratizing the usage of our data and underlying infrastructure in support of thoughtful decision making across the studio with high quality data and insights in hand.In this role, you will:Design, develop, and optimize data infrastructure (pipelines, applications, data stores etc) to facilitate data movement, transformation, storage, and delivery across a diverse and growing set of sources and sinksArchitect sophisticated data models that ensure high performance, data integrity, and ease of use for downstream consumersProactively identify opportunities for system improvements, manage your own workflows, and execute projects from conception to deployment with minimal oversightServe as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, translating stakeholder needs into tangible data solutions and actionable business insightsPartner closely with teams across the organization to understand data requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure data accessibilityMaintain high standards for code quality, workflow efficiency, and data quality, keeping principles like extensibility, scalability, efficiency, etc in mindWhat we’re looking for:A gamer at heart. You can clearly articulate your solutions and the reasoning behind themCore Qualifications:5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a related fieldDemonstrated success in building efficient, scalable, fault-tolerant data solutionsA self-motivated "owner" mentality with a genuine passion for clean data and elegant engineering solutionsExperience writing optimized SQL queries for analysis and building custom datasetsExperience with cloud data platforms (ideally GCP) and big data tools (e.g., BigQuery, Redshift, Iceberg, Spark, Beam)Deep understanding of data modeling, data quality practices, and cost-efficient storage architectureHands-on experience working with structured and semi-structured data across relational and NoSQL databasesExperience with Git and modern version control workflowsPreferred ExperienceAny of the following would be highly preferred, but most of all, we value engineers who are eager to learn and contribute to the team:Familiar with the Python data ecosystem (e.g., Pandas, Airflow, Flask, Plotly)Experience with the broader GCP ecosystem (Kubernetes, GCS, PubSub, Cloud Functions, etc)Experience with Apache SparkExperience with TypeScript or GolangExperience with CICD or IaC (Terraform)Experience with a data visualization tool like Tableau or LookerPerks:• Paid Time Off, Holidays, and Two Weeks Winter Break• Employees and their dependents get medical, dental, and vision coverage, regardless of their level, tenure, or position within the company. The salary range for this position is $133,000 USD to $180,000 USD annually, with the opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the Company’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, and paid time off.#LI-Remote
