DescriptionKonami Gaming is looking for a Sound Designer II to join our team!

Sound Designer II creates original music and sound effects for slot machines and other gaming platforms, collaborating with programmers to implement audio assets. By considering player psychology, they craft immersive audio experiences that enhance gameplay. Leveraging technical skills, they contribute to audio pipeline improvements and ensure smooth cross-team collaboration. They manage projects efficiently and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.

What you'll be doing:

Composes original sound design and music for video and stepper slot machines, as well as other gaming platforms.

Uses sound effects, background music (BGM), and voiceover effectively to highlight key gameplay elements.

Collaborates with programmers to implement audio assets using scripting and integration tools.

Demonstrates a solid understanding of development workflows across a range of game types, platforms, and products.

Performs moderately complex audio data setup with minimal errors, while continuing to develop advanced technical skills.

Participates in the audio adaptation and conversion of legacy games for different platforms, ensuring sound quality and consistency across various hardware and software environments.

Identifies opportunities for process improvement within the audio pipeline.

Designs sound from the perspective of the player, especially considering the psychology and expectations of players with a strong interest in gaming.

Creates competitive and emotionally resonant sound that aligns with industry standards and player behavior.

Manages small to mid-scale projects independently or collaboratively, delivering high-quality results within budget and timelines.

Executes assigned tasks with minimal supervision and manages time effectively.

Anticipates scheduling challenges and communicates proactively to support timeline adjustments.

Occasionally initiates sound design tasks outside of scheduled projects with minimal supervision.

Supports fellow sound designers with tasks beyond their own project assignments.

Collaborates effectively with other teams within Games R&D, ensuring smooth integration of audio into the broader development process.

Applies and upholds the company’s sound direction, while proactively suggesting creative approaches that align with it.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field, plus 2–4 years of experience in game sound development.

Alternatively: 4+ years of professional experience in the music or sound design industry, plus 2–4 years of experience in game sound development.

Master’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field, plus 0–2 years of experience in game sound development.

Alternatively: 6+ years of professional experience in the music or sound design industry, plus 0–2 years of experience in game sound development.

Demonstrates strong understanding of sound design fundamentals, including sound effects creation, music composition, audio editing, and acoustic engineering.

Demonstrates solid foundational skills in either sound effects creation or music composition.

Actively self-educates on new sound design techniques and shares acquired knowledge with peers.

Capable of preparing progress reports and organizing/maintaining relevant documentation.

Ability to quickly learn platform specifications and proprietary audio tools.

Communicates professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization.

Must be able to obtain and maintain required gaming licensure(s).

Proficient in multiple audio production software applications, such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, Digital Performer, Sound Forge, WaveLab, and Pro Tools.

Knowledge or experience with audio middleware tools such as Wwise or FMOD is desirable.

Able to use Microsoft Excel from basic operations to moderately advanced functions (e.g., formulas, data organization).

Work Environment:

Full-time / 40+ hours per week. Must be flexible to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Must be comfortable working in an area with limited working space for long hours with the ability to remain seated at computer terminal for extended periods of time. Extreme repetitive motion using keyboard, mouse, and telephone. Must be able to work at assigned location to enable direct communications and interactions with team members, management, and others as necessary, unless traveling for a business-related purpose.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting assigned deadlines. Demonstrates high integrity, trust, and strict confidentiality. Ability to maintain excellent communication and a positive, respectful, and professional attitude and relationship with clients, employees, peers, co-workers, all levels of management, and all outside organizations conducting business or otherwise interacting with the company. Ability to always act autonomously while adhering to overall department and company policies and procedures.

Position shall work primarily in a smoke free office environment. The noise level is low to moderate.
