The Sound Designer (Open Level – II or III) creates and implements original sound effects and music for slot machines and other gaming platforms.
This position is primarily scoped at the Sound Designer II level, focusing on the independent execution of sound design, music composition, and audio implementation based on established sound direction and development workflows, with an emphasis on creating engaging audio content that enhances gameplay flow and player experience.
Working closely with game producers, programmers, and cross-functional teams, the Sound Designer crafts immersive audio experiences grounded in player psychology and ensures high-quality, reliable audio integration across platforms. The role also contributes to continuous improvement of audio workflows through hands-on production and proactive collaboration.
Candidates with stronger experience may be considered at the Sound Designer III level, based on demonstrated ownership, technical maturity, and the ability to support projects and teammates—while aligning with existing sound direction and team practices.
What you'll be doing:
(All candidates – Sound Designer II / III)
Create original sound effects, music, and voiceover assets for slot machines and other gaming platforms, delivering consistent and engaging audio experiences.
Compose original background music (BGM) and musical elements that support gameplay flow, emotional pacing, and player engagement.
Collaborate closely with programmers to implement audio assets using proprietary tools, scripting, and established integration pipelines.
Design sound from the player’s perspective, considering player psychology, emotional impact, and gameplay feedback.
Apply sound effects, background music (BGM), and voiceover effectively to highlight and reinforce key gameplay elements.
Independently manage assigned sound design tasks and small- to mid-scale projects, delivering high-quality results within defined schedules.
Perform accurate audio data setup and adaptation across different hardware and software environments.
Contribute to improvements in audio workflows and processes through practical production experience and clear communication.
Communicate proactively with team members and cross-functional partners to anticipate risks and support smooth development progress.
Apply and uphold the company’s established sound direction, proposing creative ideas that align with existing style, constraints, and gameplay goals.
Additional Expectations for Sound Designer III Consideration
(Applies only if hired or evaluated at the Sound Designer III level)
Take increased ownership of intermediate-scale sound design projects, from planning through execution, while aligning with established sound direction.
Support and mentor fellow sound designers by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and assisting with intermediate to advanced challenges.
Proactively identify and propose improvements to audio workflows, tools, or pipelines based on production experience.
Handle complex audio implementation tasks, including new technologies or platforms with limited documentation or support.
Collaborate more actively with cross-functional teams to anticipate dependencies and ensure smooth audio integration throughout development.
Provide musical guidance or compositional input where appropriate, while aligning with established sound direction and project goals.

Required Qualifications (All Candidates)
Professional experience in sound design, music composition, or game audio production, with hands-on involvement in creating and implementing audio assets for interactive content.
Solid understanding of sound design fundamentals, including sound effects creation, music composition, audio editing, and mixing.
Practical experience with one or more professional audio production tools (e.g., Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, FL Studio, Ableton Live, or equivalent DAWs).
Ability to learn and adapt to proprietary tools, platform specifications, and evolving technical requirements.
Experience collaborating with programmers and cross-functional teams in a development environment.
Ability to manage tasks independently, communicate progress clearly, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain required gaming licensure(s).
Additional Qualifications for Sound Designer III Consideration
Demonstrated experience owning or leading intermediate-scale sound design projects.
Advanced proficiency in either sound effects creation or music composition, with strong working knowledge of the other discipline.
Experience mentoring or supporting other sound designers through feedback, knowledge sharing, or technical assistance.
Proven ability to manage complex audio implementation challenges and unfamiliar technical environments.
Experience contributing to improvements in audio workflows, tools, or production pipelines.
Knowledge or experience with audio middleware tools such as Wwise or FMOD is desirable.
Able to use Microsoft Excel from basic operations to moderately advanced functions (e.g., formulas, data organization).
Education / Experience:
Sound Designer II
Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field and 2–4 years of experience in game sound development.
A Master’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field may be considered in lieu of some professional experience.
Sound Designer III
Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field and 5–7 years of experience in game sound development.
A Master’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field may be considered with 3–5 years of experience in game sound development.
Equivalent professional experience may be considered for exceptional candidates with a proven track record of owning complex game audio projects and contributing at a senior level.
Work Environment:
Full-time / 40+ hours per week. Must be flexible to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Solid understanding of sound design fundamentals, including sound effects creation, music composition, audio editing, and mixing.
Must be comfortable working in an area with limited working space for long hours with the ability to remain seated at computer terminal for extended periods of time. Extreme repetitive motion using keyboard, mouse, and telephone. Must be able to work at assigned location to enable direct communications and interactions with team members, management, and others as necessary, unless traveling for a business-related purpose.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting assigned deadlines. Demonstrates high integrity, trust, and strict confidentiality. Ability to maintain excellent communication and a positive, respectful, and professional attitude and relationship with clients, employees, peers, co-workers, all levels of management, and all outside organizations conducting business or otherwise interacting with the company. Ability to always act autonomously while adhering to overall department and company policies and procedures.
Position shall work primarily in a smoke free office environment. The noise level is low to moderate.
Position may be required to attend monthly Field Research trips to casinos, tradeshows, or as needed. Must be able to tolerate areas containing varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds, and air quality. Must be able to tolerate areas containing secondhand smoke.
